Pittsburghlaserdoc.com is proud to announce that at our facility, laser hair removal is done exclusively by experienced medical professionals. Other facilities employ technicians, estheticians and non medical personnel to operate their lasers. We feel that this is unsafe and just plain wrong. But best of all, you'll be pleasantly surprised to find that we provide these services at a price you'll like!

Our Epitouch® Hair Removal Laser provides a new level of effectiveness and convenience with results that last. In fact, the advanced, clinically tested Epitouch® laser is the fastest and most efficient system for hair removal. Other hair removal techniques provide only temporary relief. And, laser hair removal is appropriate for the face, neck, back, shoulders, chest, underarms, abdomen, legs, buttocks, bikini line, and even toes. Can you imagine never having to feel embarassed about unwanted hair and never having to shave, tweeze, or wax again?

The procedure is quite simple. A thin coat of clear gel is smoothed onto the skin, and then the laser pulses are quickly and evenly applied. With the Epitouch® laser, hundreds of hair follicles are disabled with each flash of laser light without damaging the surrounding skin.

The number of sessions will vary for each individual. This is because hair follows a specific growth cycle, moving from an “active” phase into a dormant phase. Since hair grows in cycles, not all hairs are in the growth cycle at the same time. Some hair follicles are in the active phase while others are in the resting phase of the growth cycle. The light energy disables only the hair follicles in the active phase. Follicles lying dormant will not be affected by the laser treatment. These cycles vary depending where the hair is located on the body. Several treatments at monthly intervals are generally all that is required. During your initial session, the Epitouch® will remove visible hair in the first “active” phase of the growth cycle. As a result, multiple treatments are usually necessary to disable all of the remaining hair follicles when they reach their active growth cycle. Periodic maintenance sessions may be required.

Perhaps the most significant benefit to laser hair removal is that larger areas, such as the back, shoulders, arms, legs and face, can now be treated quickly, safely, gently and effectively.

Most people see dramatic results within two weeks of the initial treatment.

In the past, the usual remedies for removing unwanted hair were electrolysis, shaving, waxing and plucking. Some of these methods are very painful and all are only temporary. Electrolysis has been known to leave permanent scars.

Now there is a more effective solution to long term hair removal - the Epitouch® Alexandrite Hair Removal Laser.

Frequently Asked Questions for Laser Hair Removal

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?
  • Permanent hair reduction is possible with the laser and also with intense pulsed light. This means that hair can be reduced so that any regrowth that might occur can be easily removed with periodic touch-ups. Because of the biology of hair growth, treatments are recommended about one to two months apart. Not all hairs are actively growing at the same time. The number of treatments required depends on the location and depth of the hair follicles.

How many treatments are usually required?
  • The number of treatments varies with each patient. We recommend at least 4 treatments depending on the location followed by periodic touch-ups or maintenance. Additional sessions may be necessary to disable the hair follicles emerging from their resting or dormant phase. Age, ethnicity, diet, medications and metabolism are all factors in hair growth.

Can all hair colors be successfully be treated?
  • Not everyone is an ideal candidate for laser hair removal. Blond, red, and gray hair does not respond well to laser hair removal. Individuals with dark hair are best suited for laser hair removal. The pigment in dark hair absorbs more light energy and is therefore easier to treat. Many people with a salt and pepper mixture of hair colors often opt to have laser hair removal done because the gray hair which remains is often not very bothersome or as noticeable as the dark hair which can be removed.

What does it cost?
  • Cost depends on the area being treated, the length of time involved, and the number of laser pulses needed per treatment. Because this varies widely from one person to the next, we recommend that you come in for a free consultation so that we can accurately assess the area of concern and give you an written estimate.

How long does a treatment take?
  • The time is related to the area treated. For example, the chin and lip areas usually take about 10-15 minutes. The back or legs usually require about 45 minutes to an hour.

Are there any restrictions on my activities after the treatment?
  • You can return to work the same day and resume all regular activities. We recommend that you avoid tanning and extended sun exposure at least one month before each treatment. Despite what others may say, to get optimum results with the least amount of treatments, you should not have laser hair removal performed when you are tanned. In addition, some individuals with darker complexions or tanned skin may have less of a benefit from the laser because the pigment in the skin will absorb some of the light energy of the laser.

Is there any special skin or hair care that I need to be aware of ahead of time?
  • The areas that are to be treated should not be plucked, bleached, waxed or treated with a depilatory cream for 4 weeks before each treatment session. We recommend that you shave or trim the area up to 1-2 days before the treatment and leave a short stubble, which is necessary for the laser to target the hairs.

Does laser hair removal hurt?
  • Treatments are very well tolerated without any type of anesthesia. A topical anesthetic cream can be applied to sensitive areas, but almost all of our patients do not find it necessary. happel laser and vein centre center lazer

What can I expect after treatment?
  • The treated area becomes slightly reddened similar to a mild sunburn. This usually subsides within 24 hours. You should avoid tanning and use a sunscreen on any treated areas exposed to the sun. Almost like magic, fourteen days later the hairs start to fall out. The hair follicles are actually purging any remaining hairs remaining under the skin.
